Eguzon-Chantome
The town is busy in the summer slow in spring and autumn then falls asleep for the winter. The nearby Lac d'Eguzon offers many sporting opportunities including swimming, sailing, waterskiing, canoeing, sail boarding, climbing, archery, mountain-biking, hiking, fishing, tennis, and horse riding.

(This page will be added to regularly so please re-visit to check on developments.)

France is made up of 22 Regions and 95 Départments.  Around Les Noisettes the (3) Allier, (18) Cher, (23) Creuse and (36) Indre are some of the Départments of the Centre Region, Limousin Region and the Poitou Charente we have explored for you in our 'Local Attractions' page.  The page will be added to, as we find and explore more attractions.

Like in the UK, French people fondly remember the historic province names and so the Centre Region, and part of the Indre Départment, is known as Berry..... a little like Wigan being locally referred to as being in Lancashire or Stockport in Cheshire when they are both, administratively, in Greater Manchester.

As a matter of interest and to help in 'car cricket' whilst travelling long distances with children in the car, the Départment numbers are the last two digits on French car registration plates.

To avoid confusion, Centre-Val de Loire is an unofficial name for the Centre Region adopted by local Tourist Information to make the Region more identifiable (the River Loire, with its famous valley, runs through several of the Départments).

Here is a map of France showing the old Province names which are still sometimes used by die-hard French Traditionalists (there are quite a number around).
Same map of France with the new Regions named.  These were decided in the 1970s/80s on population and telephone records...... don't ask, it's France!
The Indre.  Department town is Chateauroux which is a beautiful, medieval town.  There is Auchan, Intermarché, Brico Marche, LeRoy Merlin and many other 'out of town' 'superstores' for all your shopping.  The town centre is a mixture of modern and medieval and has plenty of potential to blow your budget in one day!  Park in front of the church, shop, then have a look in the church.... your guilt will be assuaged immediately by the beauty of the interior.  (You do have to pay to park, but it is very reasonable.)

Your nearest town to Les Noisettes is Eguzon.
Eguzon is small and friendly with several lovely, locally run shops, a Super-U supermarket (with a small English food section), petrol, a night club, bars and restaurants.
